Resources on Evidence Based Practices (EBP)

EBP are practices whose effectiveness has been confirmed by systematic research or expert consensus

“Best practices” are public health programs that are believed to have been successful, but may not have been rigorously tested

Evidence-Based Practices for Healthiest Wisconsin 2010 Project
A Web site developed by the Department of Health and Family Services (DHFS) in partnership with the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute (UW PHI) to encourage the use of evidence-based practices in the implementation of Healthiest Wisconsin 2010. http://dhfs.wisconsin.gov/statehealthplan/practices/index.htm

The Guide to Community Preventive Services – Systematic Reviews and Evidence Based Recommendations (Task Force on Community Preventive Services)
The Guide to Community Preventive Services provides public health decision makers with recommendations regarding population based interventions to promote health and to prevent disease, injury, disability, and premature death. The Community Guide is a federally sponsored initiative and is part of a family of federal public health initiatives including Healthy People 2010 and the Guide to Clinical Preventive Services. Information about the Community Guide and links to a variety of resources are available at http://www.thecommunityguide.org/.

Healthy People 2010 Information Access Project
The purpose of this site is to make information and evidence-based strategies related to the Healthy People 2010 objectives easier to find. The National Library of Medicine and the Public Health Foundation staff have worked together to develop pre-formulated search strategies for selected Healthy People 2010 focus areas.

These one-click strategies search PubMed, a database of the National Library of Medicine that provides access to over 11 million citations from MEDLINE and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources. Click on the focus areas to link to specific search strategies.
