New Investigator Program (NIP)


The Medical Education and Research Committee (MERC) of the Wisconsin Partnership Program is pleased to announce the 2008 funding cycle for the New Investigator Program (NIP). The goal of the NIP is to support innovative approaches leading to improvements in health. MERC is seeking creative research and education proposals that span the spectrum of basic science, clinical science, or population health science. Awards up to $100,000 may be requested to be expended over two years.

------ ELIGIBILITY ------

UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) Clinician-Teacher, CHS and Tenure Track Assistant Professors who will not reach the beginning of the terminal year of their appointment as of January 1, 2009 are eligible to apply to this program. In addition, Assistant Professors from other UW-Madison schools and colleges who have a joint or affiliate appointment in the SMPH, and who will not reach the beginning of the terminal year of their appointment as of January 1, 2009 are eligible.

There is an important change to the RFP from the previous cycle. The application process is now web-based. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the application instructions available below before starting an application.

------ INFORMATION SESSION ------

An information session for applicants has been scheduled on Thursday, June 26, 2008, 5:00-6:00pm, in room 4201 of the Health Sciences Learning Center. The Wisconsin Partnership Program staff and Paul DeLuca, chair of the MERC, will be available to answer questions. Please note the session is also open to others working with faculty on developing an application.

------ DEADLINE ------

Applications are due on August 15, 2008. The top ranked applicants will be interviewed by the MERC on November 10, 2008. No exceptions to these dates will be made.
